Condition Monitoring
“In industry, maintenance is
usually the single highest
expenditure item: it is also
the most controllable.”

Vibration analysis, oil analysis and infrared analysis are the more popular condition monitoring techniques used in industry at present. They are proven and trusted techniques, which are able to provide information regarding the health or condition of machinery to reduce and prevent the occurrence of unexpected and catastrophic failures. Causes of premature failures are bad design, poor assembly or incorrect application. Failure will result where the dynamics of a machine are affected by any one of these three factors. CMS specialises in identification and interpretation of machinery problems through vibration analysis. Engaging CMS as a maintenance partner introduces a service to fulfil the role of an in-house vibration analysis facility. CMS would like to change the general approach to condition monitoring, focusing on maintaining standards, and ensuring a long-term investment in machinery health and reliability.
CMS’s IMPLEMENTATION OF AN CONDITION MONITORING PROGRAM
It is our understanding that you have a well establish Maintenance program and would therefore assureYou that CMS will use this as a basis to provideyou with the best Condition Monitoring service. The success of any new program depends largely on the involvement and support of all personnel inclusive of Management. CMS therefore recommended the following: We recommend that regular sampling and measurement should be carried outon all critical and essential equipment. Monitoring should be carried out on a monthly basis or according to plant requirements. The program shouldbe established over a period so that meaningful trends and alarm levels can be established.
MANAGEMENT PROCESS
Equipment availability and production downtime will be reviewed on a quarterly basis with the Asset Care Specialist and Management to ensurethat the right philosophy is constantly applied. Re-occurring problems will be investigated to ensure that the root cause of problems are identified and corrected.
DATABASE CONFIGURATION AND OWENERSHIP
The Condition Monitoring Specialists will be responsible for the implementation and management of the program. They will visit your site toobtain details information about the machines and their operation. They will study the machine drawings and obtain technical data, this information will then be used in the set-up of vibration and oil analysis databases. There after they will visit site on a regular basis and be responsible for the collection, analysis and interpretation of the vibration data as well as sampling and analysis of the oil samples. They will then coordinate the information from the oil and vibration analysis. The databases will be configured and maintained by a Condition MonitoringSpecialist for the duration of this partnership and hereafter it will become you’re responsibility. On continuation of the partnership, CMS will audit the databases during regular site-visits.
CM PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
The first months will be utilised to capture and analyse information as per scope of work. During this period more information will be collected on the plant operation and machine classification i.e. critical, semi-critical etc. After this initial period CMS will advice if any changes to the present Scope of Work is necessary within accordance with the Condition Monitoring Specialist. The frequency of monitoring, techniques used and the plant monitored will be re-evaluated at least every 6 months to ensure continuous enhancement of the CM program.
REPORTS
A Condition Monitoring Specialist will compile a report format to ensure that all the data captured during the surveys are reported. All reports will be issued after completion of data capturing. These reports will include plant health indicators and corrective actions required to ensure machine availability.Bi-annual and annual reports will include statistics on type of failures and defects as well as the frequency on the identified plant. The corrective actions performed will be included if adequate maintenance feedback is received from the relevant departments.
CMS’s PRO-ACTIVE INTERVENTION IMPLEMENTATION
Balancing and laser alignment will be done in conjunction with the vibration analysis report and on request. Infrared surveys can be conducted on a less frequent basis. Our thermographer will come on site when requested by the company and will carry out a survey on predetermined equipment. Scope of work will consist of identifying faults, image collection and report preparation
HANDS ON TRAINING
Training will be provided trough on-site awareness training, at no extra cost.
